Diligence is being willing to work and do one’s best at any given job. Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before common men Proverbs 22:29.
Diligence means conscientiousness in paying proper attention to task giving the degree of care required in a given situation. It also means “persevering determination to perform a task” simply put, a diligent person puts his very best into what he or she does. A diligence person pays attention to detail and perfection. The Bible lets us know that if you are diligent, you stand before kings and not ordinary men. That means you will come into places of influence and authority. The Bible shows us that David was a diligent young man. The responsibilities given to him at home by his father (tending sheep) seemed menial in comparison with those of his brothers who were in army. But David took care of these sheep like he wanted to make a career in sheepherding! He performed his duties faithfully and diligently.
Second, the Bible says “He who has a slack hand becomes poor but the hand of the diligent makes rich” (Proverb 10:4). That means the one who is diligent will never lack? God will bless whatever he does and he will profit from it. But the indolent man will always tend towards poverty: lack and want. If you are into business, for example, diligence will keep you ahead of your competitors. Refuse to be lazy!
Sleeping away the hours meant for productive work leads to poverty, proverbs 6:6 ” Go to the ant: you sluggard consider his ways and be wise”. Another lesson from the Ant is that they know how to prepare for the desired harvest. Harvest/reward do not just come, they are planned for. Some people expect the downpour of blessing without necessarily working towards it. Famine is guaranteed for those who failed to sow for the raining day. Your future depends on how you treat your seeds spiritual. Proverb 6:8 says a diligent woman provides her meat in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest. Proverb 26:13-16, as the door turneth upon its hinges. So does the slothful upon his bed – Proverb 26:14. A sluggard woman refuses to make effort. Her problem is procrastination, she always hopes for a tomorrow that never comes, her prayer life is watery – O sluggard when will you start to pray aggressive and effective prayers? She will continue postponing, all the other church programmes/prayer time. If you are fond of carrying over today’s assignments, responsibilities and duties to the next day or some future date, you are a sluggard. If you cannot make an effort that will deliver you, your expected positive results, you are a sluggard. One thing sluggard loves so well is sleep. “How long will thou sleep O sluggard, when will you arise out of they sleep. Proverb 6:9. A woman, who is praying that God should provide her a job but wakes up at 12 noon, or cannot go out in search of opportunities, is a sluggard. Many people have remained ordinary because they have too much of sleep. A diligent woman – Prov. 31:13-15 is industrious she is an efficient hardworking woman Prov. 31:18. “She perceives that her merchandise is good and her lamp does not go out by night”. Prov. 31:27 – she does not eat the breach of idleness.
Third, the Bible says, “The hand of the diligent shall rule: but the lazy man shall be forced to labour “proverbs 12:24. I like that? That means the woman who is diligent will always be the Boss of the one who is not. Make up your mind to be diligent to whatever you’re involved in. Don’t despise any responsibility you’re given irrespective of how it might seem. God will prove you with that little assignment, therefore be diligent in doing it. Don’t give room to temptation of laziness, of sleeping instead of working. This does not mean we should not rest, but that we shouldn’t rest when we should be working. Ants are used as an example because it utilizes its energy and resources economically. If you allow laziness to set in your life it will give birth to poverty.
