A SURE ANCHOR

My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands. Proverbs 3:1

Without an anchor, a stationary boat will drift. In a similar way, unless we are anchored in the Word, we can easily slip away from a close relationship with God. God's word is the anchor that keeps us firm in Him as we sail life's water. Drifting away from God is often gradual. It's easy to adjust to each slight shift and become accustomed to a growing, distance between us and God. Spiritual drifting usually indicates living outside of God's will.

Many choices can lead to this situation. Neglecting prayer, scripture, or corporate worship can affect one's spiritual journey. Unless our life goals align with biblical principles, we can easily be enticed by materialism, selfishness, power, or other worldly values that drift us away from God. When we continue sinning willfully, our conscience condemns us, and we eventually lose the joy of the presence of God.

Being adrift overtime can produce devastating results. We may eventually lose interest in the things of God. Excitement over spiritual truths might diminish. Obeying biblical commands may seem less important. Our hearts, which were once obedient can lose sensitivity to get Holy Spirit. We stop praying, reading our Bibles, and going to church. If this continues, we may lose our Faith, God's best for us here on earth, and even our eternal inheritance.

The Lord graciously offers forgiveness and open arms to those who repent. Are you keeping yourself firmly grounded in the Word?
